Arriaran dam tour

This circular tour begins on the dam of the Arriaran dam.
In the route we will see the sculpture of the famous Basque sculptor of the 20th century Nestor Basterretxea. It is an easy route, plain, suitable for children and that in many times crosses areas between trees, so it protects us from the sun on hot days. In the last kilometre of the route the trail running next to the swamp comes to an end and we will have to continue along the road that connects Salbatoreh with Mandubia, a road that passes through the neighborhoods of Astigarreta and Garin, belonging to the town of Beasain.
It is a very short road and the route does not even pass through the neighborhoods mentioned above.
You can park on the side of the road where the itinerary begins.

Beasain – Aralar – Ataun – Olaberria – Beasain

Get down the road to Ataun, where you will have to go up a short but steep slope, into the town of Olaberria. From here you will be getting closer to Beasain, seeing the beautiful caseríos of the area, and going down passing Indar’s factory and Igartza Monument Complex.

Historic-Artistic Site: Igartza

Igartza

Historic-artistic site

Igartza

You will find Igartza’s monumental complex right at the entrance of Beasain. The site dates from the 12th century, when there was a defensive tower instead of a palace. One of Beasain’s charms is the neighbourhood of Igartza, declared a Historic-Artistic Site because of its monumental, architectural and historical value. Cross the XII century bridge and you enjoy an impressive view of Mount Txindoki. Then admire the Igartza Palace (XV c.) -nowadays the Conference Centre and Auditorium-, continue through the old foundry (XIII c.), the windmill (XIII c.) still in use today and the Dolarea (XVII c.), which used to be a tavern, a lodge, a shop, and a hospital. Currently, the Dolarea Hotel is there. You can get to know the place by attending one of their guided visitsexhibitions or conferences.
