The 18 villages of Goierri

Get to know the Goierri by bicycle
Today we take you to visit one of the most authentic and rural regions of the Basque Country: The Highlands. It is a region formed by 18 municipalities, crossed from north to south by the N1 Madrid-Irun highway but in turn full of small roads and mountain pass ideal for cycling.

The route begins in Ordizia – Beasain, the main towns of the region from where we will start to visit all its towns in this order: Itsasondo, Legorreta, Arama, Altzaga (option to go up to the neighborhood of Altzagarate), Gaintza, Zaldibia, port of Lazkaomendi, Lazkao, Ataun (the 3 neighborhoods), Olaberria, Idiazabal, Segura, Zegama, neighborhood of Barbari, Zerain, Mutiloa, mountain pass of Liernia, Gabiria, Ormaiztegi, Beasain and Ordizia.

The route is carried out trying to ascend to the minimum number of cols, although it can be hardened and carry out various mountain passes.
On the route you can see small towns and roads that, although they are very close to the main road, will allow you to pedal without noise or dangers.

Tour to Goierri 118k

Tour from Beasain (can be started from any town) and runs through several towns and places in the Goierri and Tolosaldea region.
Starting from this tour you can shorten and make shorter tours.

Txirrindularia – La ciclista

In Goierri there is a great love of cycling. As the roads are suitable for cycling in a safe and entertaining way, the main objective of the “TXIRRINDULARIA – La Ciclista GOIERRI” cycling tour is to encourage women to take part in this type of event, as the number of women cyclists is increasing.
The route runs through part of Goierri and climbs 4 mountain passes.

Goierri-Tour de France 2023

Linear route that runs along the part of the Tour de France stage on 2 July, starting in Vitoria-Gasteiz and finishing in Donostia-San Sebastián.
The route starts at the top of the Aztiria pass to reach Zerain, passing by the Aizpea mines.
After passing Zerain, it heads towards the medieval town of Segura.
From here, passing through the outskirts of Idiazabal and Olaberria, we reach the town of Beasain and its Igartza Monumental Complex.
The next town is Ordizia, famous for its weekly Wednesday market, which has been held since 1512.
To finish, we will pass through Zadibia and begin the ascent to the Larraitz pass under the imposing silhouette of the Txindoki.
