The 18 villages of Goierri

Get to know the Goierri by bicycle
Today we take you to visit one of the most authentic and rural regions of the Basque Country: The Highlands. It is a region formed by 18 municipalities, crossed from north to south by the N1 Madrid-Irun highway but in turn full of small roads and mountain pass ideal for cycling.

The route begins in Ordizia – Beasain, the main towns of the region from where we will start to visit all its towns in this order: Itsasondo, Legorreta, Arama, Altzaga (option to go up to the neighborhood of Altzagarate), Gaintza, Zaldibia, port of Lazkaomendi, Lazkao, Ataun (the 3 neighborhoods), Olaberria, Idiazabal, Segura, Zegama, neighborhood of Barbari, Zerain, Mutiloa, mountain pass of Liernia, Gabiria, Ormaiztegi, Beasain and Ordizia.

The route is carried out trying to ascend to the minimum number of cols, although it can be hardened and carry out various mountain passes.
On the route you can see small towns and roads that, although they are very close to the main road, will allow you to pedal without noise or dangers.

Do you encourage yourself to make the route and look for other variants?
