The hike goes between the villages of Olaberria and Idiazabal and their farms. Olaberria, known as Goierri’s Balcony, is a small village in the hillocks. Idiazabal is the village from which the delicious Idiazabal cheese gets its name.
The hike between both villages goes along a part of the Saint Jacques Way (the North route to Santiago de Compostela). Among all the farms there’s a special one: the tower-house of the Oiarbide family, go take a look! The hike is easy, with great views of both mountain ranges, Aralar and Aizkorri-Aratz from Olaberria and from the top of Idiazabal.
When you get to Idiazabal, you’ll leave the Saint Jacques Way once you see the Idiazabal Cheese Museum, so keep walking by the river Urtsuaran, and it will take you to the centre of the village. Follow a road of farmhouses and you will get to a road to Segura, Zerain, Zegama and Mutiloa. From there, just turn right to come back to Olaberria while enjoying the view of the farms.
