Ausa – Gaztelu trail PR-Gi 2004Ā
The tour will bring us closer to the remains of the existing fortress on the top of Mount Ausa-Gaztelu, not far from the Larraitz recreation area, to enter another past era. This construction, erected in the 13th century, was a lookout post on the border between the kingdoms of Castilla and Navarra. As it appears in archival documents, in those days the Navarra farm grazed in Aralar and the forces of Castile made incursions to get hold of them. From these posts, the horn was warned to collect the cattle to safer places. Obviously, it is a place with a wonderful panoramic view.
