Trail station

Explore one of our passions: the mountain. In Goierri we celebrate 2 trail races known around the world: Zegama-Aizkorri marathon and Ehunmillak ultra-trail (held together with G2H and Marimurumendi marathon taking place in the same weekend).

Hiking: Olaberria – Idiazabal

The hike takes place between the villages of Olaberria and Idiazabal, and their caseríos. Olaberria, known as Goierri’s Balcony, is a small village in the hillocks.

Climbing Aizkorri

Meet the most popular peak in the Basque Country: the Aizkorri. To get to the summit, we recommend leaving your car in the parking area located under San Adrián’s tunnel. You will get to see the tunnel, walk on the medieval road and get to the top through the Camino de los Alaveses.

Zegama – San Adrián tunnel: Saint Jacques Way

The North route to Santiago de Compostela and San Adrián’s tunnel have both been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What’s the story of this tunnel that makes it such a magical place for pilgrims?

Gaintza PR-GI 29

Get to know the village of Gaintza with this suggested route. Get a magnificent view of Txindoki and see the caseríos around!

San Adrián tunnel SL-Gi 3003

Our region is very suitable for organising fun and educational activities for kids. The natural parks of Aizkorri-Aratz and Aralar make Goierri the best known in rural tourism and nature in the Basque Country. It is an ideal environment for kids to enjoy freedom and breathe the purest air of our mountains.

Outdoors: family adventures

If you want to practice orienteering as a game and a sport, come to Zegama. There are three circuits with several levels of difficulty for everyone to enjoy. The starting point is Parketxe de Anduetza where you will get the maps to lead you.

Aizkorri: the highest peak in Euskadi

Do you dare climb the mountain where Edurne Pasaban started practicing? The first woman to complete the ascent of the 14 eight-thousanders on Earth developed her hobby here, in the mountains of Goierri.

Cultural heritage: San Adrián tunnel

You can get to the tunnel by car and walk the last 20 minutes or take a 2 hours circular route by foot, which is very beautiful and well sign-posted.

Goierri’s symbol: Latxa sheep

Latxa sheep are native to Euskal Herria -Navarra and the Basque Country-. There are two varieties: dark-faced and blonde, and they are small to medium sized, as well as thin and agile.

Idiazabal is located between Aralar and Aizkorri-Aratz Sierras and it gives the famous and delicious cheese its name. It’s only 30 minutes away from San Sebastián!
